Yaktrax are my friends
...my very, very, very dear friends. these fabulous contraptions (steel coils wrapped around a rubber framwork that then stretches to fit onto the sole of your shoe) have allowed me to run in the snow and ice here in chicago for two days now, and i even did a race in them yesterday.
it was a dismal, dismal pace, but perhaps the weather and the sloggy conditions had something to do with that. on the other hand, i got to hang out with some great new people, courtesy of miss k, and meet someone who's a life coach. we had a lovely breakfast at ann sather's (my second there in three days after a breakfast meeting with hans and alexe), and then i got taken home and crawled into the shower and onto the couch shortly afterwards with the newspaper. it was a nice afternoon.
regrettably, there is massive work unpleasantness to report. i am fed up with playing the manager at the bookstore when i really don't need to. worse, i'm not being compensated as such, and much needs to be done to rectify the situation. i am very stressed about today's management meeting (me and the bookstore owner), because i am going to have to walk away if things do not change fast.
i don't understand how this happened. i only wanted to work at the bookstore a few hours a week; i wanted to help them build a solid marketing plan and get the thing off the ground. suddenly, i'm eyeball-deep in office workings and, worse, management.
perhaps i'm simply pissed that inepititude is ruining my capability to do my job. that kind of thing really, uh, chaps my hide. the professional side of me is screaming that i need to get out. but i really like the Job at the bookstore.
damnit.
damnit.
damnit.
boy, it's been a bad week for work. and it's only monday.
